چکیده

Degradation of the sycamore cell wall by hydrazinolysis yielded soluble glycopeptides. The peptide portion of the predominant glycopeptide was shown to be cyclic (4-trans-hydroxy-l-prolyl)-4-trans-hydroxy- l-proline. From this structure and the composition of the major glycopeptide it was deduced that only short oligosaccharides are attached to the hydroxyprolyl residues of the wall glycoprotein. Detailed evidence for the structure of the peptide is given in a supplementary paper that has been deposited as Supplementary Publication SUP 50020, at the National Lending Library for Science and Technology, Boston Spa, Yorks. LS23 7BQ, U.K., from whom copies can be obtained on the terms indicated in Biochem. J. (1973) 131, 5.

Glycoprotein of the wall of sycamore tissue-culture cells.

1. A glycoprotein containing a large amount of hydroxyproline is present in the cell walls of sycamore callus cells. This protein is insoluble and remained in the alpha-cellulose when a mild separation procedure was used to obtain the polysaccharide fractions of the wall. The glycoprotein contained a high proportion of arabinose and galactose. 2. Soluble glycopeptides were prepared from the alp...

Sulfated glycoproteins secreted by human vascular endothelial cells.

Endothelial cells incorporate 35SO4 into a class of glycoproteins which are released from the cell layer into the culture medium. The incorporated 35SO4 was localized on intact oligosaccharide chains which were released from the protein either chemically by hydrazinolysis or enzymatically by a peptide: N-glycosidase activity; thus these 35S-oligosaccharides are presumably N-glycosidically linke...

The Structure of Plant Cell Walls: II. The Hemicellulose of the Walls of Suspension-cultured Sycamore Cells.

The molecular structure, chemical properties, and biological function of the xyloglucan polysaccharide isolated from cell walls of suspension-cultured sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) cells are described. The sycamore wall xyloglucan is compared to the extracellular xyloglucan secreted by suspension-cultured sycamore cells into their culture medium and is also compared to the seed "amyloid" xylog...

Synthesis and Transport of Hydroxyproline-rich Components in Suspension Cultures of Sycamore-Maple Cells.

Plant cell walls contain a glycoprotein rich in hydroxyproline. To determine how Acer pseudoplatanus L. cells transport this glycoprotein to the wall, the pulse-chase technique was used to follow changes in specific radio-activity of hydroxyproline and proline in isolated, mitochondrial, Golgi, microsomal, soluble protein, and wall fractions. The turnover rates or changes in specific radioactiv...
